We will discuss state law in reference to utilizing defensive force for the purpose of self defense, including deadly force.
You must be at least 18 years old to attend our classes. TN residents 18 and older qualify to receive a certificate for applying to receive a carry permit. VA residents must be 21 in order to obtain a permit.
You may bring your own firearm, if you choose. Leave said firearm secured in your vehicle until the instructor tells you to bring it in for range qualification. If you choose, we offer .22 semi auto pistols for rent with the required amount of ammo.
Must be at least a .22 caliber
➢ 5.7 caliber handguns are not permitted
➢ Must be in good working condition
➢ Handguns must be inspected by instructors prior to being used on the firing range. Handguns are also subject to
being inspected at any time during the firing exercise portion of training.
➢ No modifications to the handgun, that compromises the safety (to be determined by the instructor) are allowed.
➢ If using a revolver – NO “push-off” is allowed on single action revolvers.
Reloaded ammunition is not allowed for use during qualification exercises.
➢ All ammunition must be factory loaded ammunition – in its original container.
➢ Qualification requires 50 rounds of ammunition. (In case of ammunition possibly being dropped beyond the
firing line, additional rounds are recommended.)
➢ Only Full Metal Jacket (FMJ), Total Metal Jacket (TMJ), Soft Point (SP), Wad Cutter (WC), Flat Nose (FN)
ammunition is allowed for qualification. No Hollow Point (HP) of any type is allowed for qualification.
Ear protection (either over the ear muffs or in the ear plugs) is required during the qualification phase of
training.
Eye protection (prescription eye wear is acceptable) is required during the qualification phase of training. (If
students do not have their own personal protection, loaner ear and eye protection is available at the range at no
cost to students.)
Shirt with collar or crew neck (loose or V-neck shirts are not recommended) to prevent or lessen the likelihood of
hot brass from traveling down the student’s shirt during qualification exercises.
Head covering such as a ball cap is also recommended to prevent hot brass form landing in the student’s hair.
Closed-toe footwear, such as boots or athletic shoes, is a requirement. No open-toed footwear, especially flip flops can be worn for safety. Long pants are also recommended. (Shorts or Capri style pants are not recommended.
The state of TN requires the following to successfully pass the Enhanced Handgun permit Course. A written test, made up of 50 multiple choice questions, from the classroom portion of the training. The course of fire, during the range qualification will be 50 rounds, broken up into three shooting distances: 20 rounds at 3 yards, 20 rounds at 5 yards, and 10 rounds at 7 yards. A score of 70% is required to pass each portion of testing.
Instructions on safe handling and proper handling during the qualification phase will be provided during the classroom portion of training.
Holsters will NOT be used and NO “drawing exercises” will be performed during the range portion of training.
Handguns should be transported in closed carry cases/bags. Extra magazines are recommended.
No family members, guests, photography/videography will be allowed in classroom or range without the consent of Critical Edge Training, LLC Owner/Management. At NO time will pets be allowed in the classroom or range.
Reasonable accommodations will be available for students with handicaps or learning disabilities.
Students are required to adhere to and follow all safety rules and practices. Unsafe practices on the firing range will result in the immediate removal, failure of course, and forfeiture of all monies paid, of the person committing the unsafe practice. This is necessary for the safety of all persons in the range area.
Prior handgun experience and/or practice before class is highly recommended. We offer assistance prior to
class at no charge. (Students must register far enough in advance to allow for pre-class work.)
